Most of them were attendees of a music festival that Hamas had targeted, but they also included Israeli citizens along with citizens from about 40 other countries such as the United States, Thailand, Britain, France, Argentina, Germany, Chile, Spain, and Portugal. The Israeli government has reported that more than half of the hostages held dual citizenship. So far, four captives have been released: Judith Raanan and her daughter Natalie Raanan on October 20, and Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz on October 23. One hostage, Israeli soldier Ori Megidish, was freed by Israeli forces on October 30 during a ground invasion. Sadly, the bodies of two hostages, including 19-year-old soldier Noa Marciano, were recovered by the Israeli military earlier this month in Gaza City.
The hostages were a diverse group of people from all over the world, who unfortunately found themselves in a dangerous and terrifying situation.
