Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has issued an advisory forbidding the display of weapons during Kanwar Yatras, which will begin on July 22 and end on August 19. The DGP Prashant Kumar stated that heavy vehicles will be banned on the routes from which the Yatra starts and on the Delhi Expressway, Dehradun Expressway, and Chaudhary Charan Singh Kanwar Marg from midnight of July 21.
Kanwariyas are advised not to carry spears, tridents, or any weapon. DJs will be allowed on the Kanwar Yatra route, but the sound must be within permissible limits as per Supreme Court directives. Liquor and meat shops along the Yatra routes will be closed, and local authorities have been asked to ensure stray animals are not found on the routes. Kanwar Yatra will be monitored through CCTVs and drones.
Normal traffic on Ayodhya-Basti Road will be restricted to only ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Police officials are coordinating with registered organizations and devotees to offer food, water, and lodging to Kanwariyas.
