Justice Served: Seattle Officer Fired After Mocking Tragic Death of Indian Student

New York:  An insensitive comment and callous laughter following the death of Indian student Jaahnavi Kandula has led to the firing of Seattle Police Officer Kevin Dave.

Kandula, 23, was fatally struck by Dave’s police vehicle while crossing the street on January 23. The bodycam footage released by the department showed Officer Daniel Auderer laughing about the incident and making insensitive remarks. Interim Chief Sue Rahr addressed the matter in an internal email, stating that the hurt caused by Auderer’s words cannot be undone and that it brings shame to the entire police department and profession.

She also emphasized her duty as a leader to uphold high standards to maintain public trust.
