Hyderabad: Criticizing the Centre’s alleged plans to amend the Waqf Board Act, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi expressed concern that this move indicates the Modi government’s intention to interfere and take away the autonomy of the board.
Speaking at a conference, Owaisi highlighted that the government is going against parliamentary supremacy and privileges by not informing Parliament while informing the media. He argued that the proposed amendments, as reported in the media, are against the freedom of religion and are in line with the BJP’s anti-Waqf agenda.
According to Owaisi, if these amendments are implemented, it will lead to administrative chaos and loss of autonomy for the Waqf Board. He also raised concerns about the government’s potential control over disputed properties and its impact on the independence of Waqf. The reports also suggest that the government is planning to bring 40 amendments in the next Parliament sitting, which further raises concerns about their agenda.
Owaisi concluded by accusing the government of trying to diminish the power of the judiciary by giving executive bodies like BJP and RSS control over surveys and decisions regarding dargahs and mosques. This move, if implemented, could potentially hinder the religious sentiments of many communities in India.
