Unprecedented security around Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar

Srinagar: Extraordinary security measures have been taken in Jammu and Kashmir to prevent any untoward incident on Independence Day. Unprecedented security arrangements have been made at the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. The main function will be held at the Bakshi Stadium. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will preside over the Independence Day celebrations. Thousands of people are expected to attend the function.

In Jammu, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor RR Bhatnagar is scheduled to oversee the celebrations at the MA Stadium. Officials said that security forces in Srinagar have increased their vigilance. Key routes like Jammu-Srinagar and Srinagar-Baramulla highways are being closely monitored. Search operations have been intensified. Armed personnel and undercover security officers have been deployed inside and around the venues to monitor and neutralize any potential threat.

Senior police officials said that security arrangements have been carefully planned to make Independence Day safe and peaceful. He said that we have finalised all the security protocols and the main venue, where the chief guest will address the gathering, has been completely sanitised. Senior police officials said that police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) sharp shooters have been deployed on high-rise buildings around the venues in Srinagar and Jammu, who are on high alert to prevent any possible security breach. They said that aerial surveillance units as well as ground surveillance teams have also been deployed to ensure multi-layered security. Security officials said that a combination of human and technical surveillance was done to secure the events.

Thorough frisking and identity verification is being done at several checkpoints of people travelling from Srinagar and Jammu. Security has been beefed up in Srinagar and the city has been divided into sectors and zones. Adequate number of security personnel are deployed in each. Police officials said that round-the-clock patrolling is being done. Tight security arrangements have also been made at district headquarters.
