Farmers and Workers to Hold Nationwide Protest on August 13

A coalition of farmers’ unions and trade bodies has announced a nationwide protest on August 13. The demonstrations will target recent US tariff threats, proposed amendments to labor laws, and the ongoing India–UK trade negotiations.

Organizers say the protest will involve rallies, road blockades, and a symbolic “Bharat Bandh” to voice concerns over economic inequality and foreign pressure on domestic policies. Preparations are underway in multiple states.

The government has appealed for dialogue and restraint, but tensions are rising as several groups accuse policymakers of ignoring grassroots economic challenges. Security measures are being reviewed in anticipation of large gatherings.
