10 Women Journalists Felicitated by IFUNA on International Women’s Day in Delhi, Indrani Sarkar Among Those Honoured

New Delhi: In recognition of the growing role of women in shaping public discourse and responsible journalism, the Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) honoured ten women journalists from across India at a special International Women’s Day programme held in the national capital.

Among those recognised was senior journalist Indrani Sarkar, whose work over the years has focused on political reporting, investigative journalism and coverage of social issues including women’s rights, governance and humanitarian concerns.

The event, organised on March 7 at Qutab Institutional Area, brought together voices from media, judiciary, academia and civil society in a collective acknowledgement of the evolving role of women professionals in public life.

Delivering the keynote address, former Supreme Court Judge and former Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Justice Indira Banerjee spoke about the importance of women’s leadership and the need to ensure equal opportunities across professions. She noted that women journalists today are not only reporting events but also helping shape democratic conversations through responsible reporting.

IFUNA President Justice S.N. Srivastava and Secretary General Suresh Srivastava underlined the organisation’s continued efforts in promoting gender equality, public awareness and dialogue around global development priorities.

A highlight of the programme was the felicitation of ten women journalists who have contributed to strengthening media ethics and public engagement. The recognition reflected their role in documenting social change and giving visibility to issues often overlooked in mainstream narratives.

The programme also featured a special literary segment where Dr. Munish presented a poetic tribute celebrating the resilience, achievements and societal contributions of women.

The gathering saw the presence of several distinguished personalities from different professional backgrounds including the judiciary, academia, corporate sector and senior members of the media fraternity. Eminent media professional Sriram Joshi of the Pudhari Group was among those present.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by IFUNA Media Advisor Deepak Parvatiyar, who emphasised the importance of encouraging more women to take leadership roles in journalism and public engagement.

The organisers stated that the initiative was intended not only to recognise individual achievements but also to inspire young journalists and media students to pursue ethical and socially responsible journalism.

IFUNA, affiliated with the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) and holding Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), continues to organise programmes promoting peace, dialogue, social justice and sustainable development.
