India Mobile Congress 2026 Begins: AI, 6G and Robotics Take Centre Stage

The 10th edition of India Mobile Congress began in New Delhi on Wednesday, bringing together technology companies, startups, policymakers and researchers to showcase developments in artificial intelligence, 5G, 6G, robotics, cybersecurity and next-generation digital infrastructure.

The four-day event is being held at Yashobhoomi from October 7 to 10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the event on October 8. More than 100 countries are expected to participate in the global technology gathering.

This year’s programme moves beyond mobile connectivity to examine how telecom networks are becoming part of a much wider digital infrastructure. Sessions are focusing on AI-powered networks, autonomous telecom systems, cloud and edge computing, digital security and the technologies being developed for the transition towards 6G.

One of the key areas of discussion is the growing use of artificial intelligence inside telecom networks. Industry experts are examining how AI can help networks predict faults, manage traffic, improve energy efficiency and strengthen security while reducing the need for manual intervention.

The event is also placing considerable attention on 6G. Researchers and industry leaders are discussing the technologies, standards and infrastructure that will be required for the next generation of wireless communication. The discussions include AI-native networks, advanced connectivity, intelligent radio systems and international trials of emerging 6G technologies.

Cybersecurity is another major focus as India’s digital economy expands. With telecom networks supporting financial transactions, public services, businesses and critical infrastructure, the discussions are increasingly centred on building networks that are secure as well as fast.

The Congress is also giving young innovators a platform through programmes covering startups, robotics and deep-tech development. A Robotics for Good Youth Challenge is among the initiatives connecting technology with practical solutions in areas such as health emergencies.

The scale of the event reflects the changing role of telecom in India’s economy. The focus is no longer limited to expanding mobile coverage but increasingly includes the computing, cloud, fibre, data centres and intelligent networks required to support artificial intelligence and other digital services.

For India, the larger challenge will be turning these technologies into affordable and reliable services that reach beyond major cities. As the country prepares for the next phase of digital growth, the discussions at India Mobile Congress will provide an indication of where telecom and technology are heading in the years ahead.
