Baramulla: A Pakistani terrorist was killed during an anti-infiltration operation carried out jointly by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police in the Buchhar area of the Uri sector along the Line of Control.
According to officials, the operation was launched during the intervening night of March 14 and 15 following specific intelligence inputs about a possible infiltration attempt from across the border.
Security forces, who had laid an ambush in the area, observed suspicious movement in dense vegetation. When troops challenged the suspect, the terrorist reportedly opened indiscriminate fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire.
During the encounter, the infiltrator, identified as a Pakistani national, was neutralised. Security personnel recovered an AK-series rifle, pistols and a substantial quantity of ammunition from the site.
Officials said search operations were continuing in the surrounding forest area to rule out the presence of additional infiltrators.
Earlier this week, another infiltration attempt was foiled in the Nowshera sector along the Line of Control. According to defence sources, alert troops detected the movement of two suspected terrorists in the Jhangar area following intelligence inputs.
Security forces launched a swift response operation, resulting in the killing of one Pakistan-sponsored terrorist while preventing the infiltration attempt.
Security agencies maintain that infiltration attempts often increase ahead of the summer months, and surveillance along the Line of Control has been intensified to prevent cross-border movement of militants.
