Kolkata: The Election Commission of India has begun a detailed assessment of election preparedness across West Bengal ahead of the Assembly elections, with multiple teams visiting districts and holding review meetings with officials.
A senior team led by Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti arrived in the state on Monday for a three-day visit. The team reached Andal Airport in West Burdwan around 12:30 pm and proceeded to Birbhum, where a review meeting is scheduled at the District Magistrate’s office.
Officials said the meeting will focus on preparedness for polling, law and order arrangements and coordination among administrative departments.
During the visit, the team is also interacting with officials from several districts, including West Burdwan, East Burdwan, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas and Kolkata, through virtual meetings to assess ground-level readiness.
Later in the day, the delegation is scheduled to travel to Murshidabad for another round of discussions at the district headquarters, followed by an overnight stay. On Tuesday, the team will continue its assessment with a visit to Nadia district.
At the same time, another Election Commission team led by Apoorva Kumar Singh is carrying out inspections in North Bengal. The team has started its visit from Alipurduar district and is reviewing polling arrangements in areas such as Rajabhatkhawa.
Officials said the team is also interacting with local residents to gather feedback on polling arrangements and accessibility.
The North Bengal team is expected to visit Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Darjeeling and Kalimpong over the next few days as part of its extended review.
Election authorities said the visits are aimed at assessing preparedness at the ground level, including polling station arrangements, security deployment and coordination among officials.
Meetings and inspections are being carried out across districts to ensure that all arrangements are in place for the conduct of elections.
Officials said the exercise is part of routine preparations to ensure that polling is conducted in a smooth and orderly manner across the state.
