Samsung India has launched an Innovation Campus in Karnataka that will train 2,000 young people in artificial intelligence skills, creating another industry-led programme aimed at closing the gap between classroom education and the abilities employers increasingly seek. The initiative has been launched in partnership with Bengaluru’s Nrupathunga University and is targeted at young people aged 18 to 25.
The programme is part of Samsung’s global education initiative and will focus on hands-on learning in emerging technologies rather than only theoretical instruction. The Karnataka campus adds another training route for students and young job seekers trying to build skills in a rapidly changing technology sector.
Why AI training is becoming an employment issue
Artificial intelligence is no longer limited to specialist research laboratories.
Companies across software, manufacturing, finance, healthcare, retail and other sectors are incorporating AI tools into ordinary workflows. That means young workers increasingly need to understand not only how AI works but how to use it responsibly and productively.
The problem is that access to such training is uneven.
Students at well-resourced institutions may have access to specialised courses, laboratories and industry programmes. Others may have to depend on free online material or basic classroom exposure.
Industry-linked programmes can bridge part of that gap.
What the Karnataka programme offers
Samsung’s Innovation Campus is designed to provide practical AI training to young people between 18 and 25. The partnership with Nrupathunga University places the programme within an academic environment in Bengaluru, one of India’s largest technology centres.
The target of 2,000 trainees gives the programme a measurable scale.
But the more important measure will be what happens after training.
A certificate alone does not create employment. Students need practical projects, demonstrable skills, industry exposure and opportunities to use those skills in real work environments.
The skills question is changing
The demand for AI skills is also changing the meaning of employability.
A young graduate entering the workforce may not become an AI researcher. But they may be expected to work with AI-assisted software, analyse data, automate repetitive tasks or understand how AI-generated information should be checked.
That makes basic AI literacy increasingly relevant across professions.
Training programmes therefore have a wider role than simply producing future programmers.
Karnataka’s advantage – and its challenge
Karnataka already has one of India’s largest technology ecosystems.
That gives students access to companies, startups, research institutions and a large technology workforce. But the presence of an industry ecosystem does not automatically guarantee that every student can participate in it.
The challenge is to connect training with actual opportunity.
Students need internships, apprenticeships, project work and entry-level positions where their new skills can be tested.
What will determine whether the programme works
The 2,000-student target is the first measurable milestone.
The next questions will be completion rates, skill improvement, industry placements and whether participants are able to use the training after leaving the programme.
For young people, the useful outcome is not simply learning the vocabulary of artificial intelligence. It is being able to demonstrate a skill that an employer, startup or institution actually needs.
