Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a review meeting with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday at North Block to evaluate the progress of implementing three new criminal laws in the state. The discussion included updated provisions concerning police, prisons, courts, prosecution, and forensic services. Attendees included Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary, Director General of Police Research and Development, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Chhattisgarh government.
Amit Shah emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the full implementation of the new criminal laws should be a priority, aimed at modernizing the Indian justice system and benefitting states like Chhattisgarh. He challenged the Chhattisgarh government to swiftly implement these laws to position the state as an exemplar of governance.
He underscored the need for accountability by delegating responsibility to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to file chargesheets for serious crimes within 60-90 days. He advocated for utilizing video conferencing to streamline the legal process, thereby conserving manpower.
Shah urged that all police stations and DSP-level officers make regular use of the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) for serious crime investigations and recommended a structured review system. He proposed that the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police conduct weekly reviews, while the state’s Home Minister and Chief Minister monitor progress bi-weekly and monthly, respectively.
Post-meeting, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai assured that the timely implementation of these laws would enhance public access to justice and affirmed compliance with Amit Shah’s directives.
