Burning Chaos: Fire Rages on INS Brahmaputra, Sailor Lost at Sea

Mumbai:  An Indian Navy warship, the INS Brahmaputra, caught fire while undergoing maintenance at the naval dockyard in Mumbai. The fire was brought under control by the ship’s crew and firefighters, but unfortunately, a junior sailor is still missing. The navy has launched a search and rescue operation for the missing sailor.

The ship, commissioned in April 2000, is the first of the indigenously built ‘Brahmaputra’ class guided missile frigate and is manned by a crew of 40 officers and 330 sailors. Despite efforts to bring the ship upright, it continues to list on one side. The navy has ordered an inquiry into the accident and all personnel have been accounted for except for the missing sailor.

The INS Brahmaputra is equipped with various weapons and sensors, making it capable of maritime warfare and operating helicopters. With a displacement of 5,300 tonnes and a speed of 27 knots, it is an important asset to the Indian Navy.
