After the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen, India has decided to impose strict measures against Pakistan. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, convened to address the situation, condemning the attack and offering condolences to the victims’ families. Following the attack on April 22, many global governments have expressed solidarity with India, emphasizing a united stance against terrorism.
The CCS has made several key decisions: the immediate suspension of the Indus Water Treaty until Pakistan demonstrates a commitment to stop supporting cross-border terrorism; closure of the Attari-Wagah border; and cancellation of SAARC visas for Pakistani citizens, with those currently in India ordered to leave within 48 hours. The Pakistani High Commission’s defense, naval, and air advisors have been declared “persona non grata” and must exit India within a week. In a reciprocal move, India will recall its advisors from Islamabad and reduce diplomatic missions from 55 to 30 until May 1, 2025.
The CCS has assured that those responsible for the attack will face justice, and the military remains on high alert as India takes further actions against terrorism.
