The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy showers in some districts of Kerala on October 26 and 27. This is due to the effect of Cyclone Dana in the Bay of Bengal, which has been causing heavy rainfall in the state for the past three days.
In its latest press release, the weather department has forecasted light to moderate rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep over the next two days. However, the weather conditions are expected to improve after that.
The IMD also warned of isolated heavy rainfall in Kerala and Mahe until October 27. As per the weather system update by IMD, a cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast Arabian Sea off south Kerala coast.
Currently, eight districts of Kerala are on yellow alert for heavy showers today. The alert was reduced from orange to yellow on Friday but remains in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts on October 27. Fishermen have also been advised to stay away from the sea as squally weather with wind speeds reaching up to 55 kmph is expected along the Kerala coast.
