Pakistan appoints Lieutenant General Asim Malik as NSA

Pakistan has appointed Lieutenant General Mohammad Asim Malik, currently the chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), as the new National Security Adviser (NSA), according to the Express Tribune. He will retain his ISI chief position, which he has held since September 2024.

Malik, a seasoned military officer, has previously served as Adjutant General at the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters during significant events, including the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. His leadership comes amidst escalating tensions with India following the Pahalgam terrorist attack that killed 26 civilians.

Recent ceasefire violations along the Line of Control have seen unprovoked fire from Pakistani posts, prompting Indian military retaliation amid rising diplomatic friction.
