Hyderabad: The SHE Teams of Hyderabad Police took action against 81 persons, including 25 minors, for alleged indecent behaviour and harassment of women in public places in Malkajgiri during January.
According to officials, the action was taken as part of ongoing surveillance operations combining field monitoring and technical tracking. The teams identified and apprehended 56 adults and 25 minors who were allegedly involved in various forms of harassment targeting women and girls.
Police said petty cases were registered against the offenders as per legal provisions, while counselling sessions were also conducted to sensitise them about the legal and social consequences of such behaviour.
Officials stated that a total of 99 complaints were received during the period under review. Among these, 28 complaints related to harassment through phone calls, 26 were linked to misuse of social media platforms, and 45 complaints involved incidents of direct physical harassment in public places.
Based on the severity of the complaints, the SHE Teams registered eight criminal cases while 25 cases were booked under petty offences. In addition, 55 individuals were referred for counselling as part of corrective measures aimed at preventing repeat offences.
Police officials reiterated that SHE Teams continue to conduct regular monitoring at vulnerable locations such as public transport points, educational institutions and crowded areas to ensure the safety of women.
Authorities urged the public to report incidents of harassment without hesitation and said strict action would continue against offenders. They also emphasised the importance of awareness and preventive policing to create a safer environment for women and girls in the city.
