Hyderabad: On Saturday, June 8, tragedy struck at the annual event of ‘fish prasadam’ distribution in Nampally when a man collapsed while waiting in a long queue.
The man, who is yet to be identified, was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately died while undergoing treatment. The event, organized by Bathini Goud family, sees a huge rush of people suffering from respiratory ailments gathering to collect the fish prasadam which is believed to provide relief.
The deceased was revealed to be a resident of Nizamabad district and the police have stated that all arrangements were made for smooth conduct of the distribution which will continue for 24 hours. This event, in which a herbal paste is fed to live ‘murrel’ fingerling and then slipped through the throat of the patient, has been taking place for the past 178 years as per the family’s claim.
The Minister of Telangana and Assembly Speaker were present at the inauguration of this event, which is linked with people’s beliefs and sees participants from various parts of India and even abroad. The government ensures smooth arrangements for this event every year.
