Chaos on the Tracks: Mumbai-Howrah Mail Derails in Jharkhand, Injuring 6

Badabamboo: On Tuesday, 18 coaches of the Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed near Badabamboo in Jharkhand, leaving at least six people injured. According to media reports, the Howrah-CSMT Express also derailed near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand’s Chakradharpur division.

The spokesperson for South Eastern Railway (SER), Om Prakash Charan, stated that there was another derailment of a goods train nearby, but it was unclear if the two accidents occurred concurrently. The Howrah-Mumbai Mail via Nagpur derailed at 3:45 AM, with 16 passenger coaches, one power car and one pantry car among the 18 coaches involved. Charan confirmed that some passengers sustained injuries and were provided medical aid in Barabamboo before being taken to Chakradharpur for further treatment.

A rescue operation was launched immediately after the incident was reported from Potobeda in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, with the Mumbai-Howrah Mail and a freight train involved in the accident. The Indian Railways announced that an ARME with staff and ADRM CKP were present on site to assist, and all injured passengers were provided first aid by railway medical teams.

In light of the incident, helpline numbers were issued by Indian Railways to provide assistance to passengers and their families. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the derailment and ensure the safety of passengers on future train journeys.
