Delhi Court extends Tahawwur Rana’s custody 12 days

A Delhi court has extended by 12 days the custody of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, an accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Special NIA judge Chander Jit Singh granted the extension following the NIA’s request after a previous 18-day remand concluded.

The proceedings were led by senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan and special public prosecutor Narender Mann, while Rana was represented by advocate Piyush Sachdeva from the Delhi Legal Services Authority. The court previously mandated daily medical check-ups for Rana and allowed him to meet his lawyer every alternate day, under the supervision of NIA officials.

The NIA argued that Rana’s continued custody was essential to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy, necessitating visits to various locations tied to the events of the 2008 attacks.

Rana, a close associate of main conspirator David Coleman Headley, was extradited to India following a U.S. Supreme Court decision.

The attacks, carried out by ten Pakistani militants, resulted in 166 fatalities over nearly 60 hours, targeting key locations in Mumbai, including hotels and a railway station.
