Hyderabad: In a major relief for residents of Hyderabad’s Old City, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday announced that a new Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) will begin operations from September 16.
Owaisi confirmed that the facility will be inaugurated by a Union Minister and thanked the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for fulfilling this long-pending demand.
“I’m pleased to announce that a Passport Seva Kendra will begin operations in Hyderabad’s Old City on September 16, inaugurated by a Union Minister. Accessible to all from South Hyderabad, it fulfils a longstanding demand,” Owaisi posted on X.
First PSK Inside a Metro Station
The new PSK will operate from the MGBS Metro Station, marking the first Passport Seva Kendra in India to be located inside a metro station. The hub serves both the red and green metro lines and also houses the VFS Global office for Saudi Arabia.
A Long-Pending Demand
The demand for a PSK in Old City had been pending for several years, with residents often forced to travel long distances to access passport services elsewhere in Hyderabad.
Owaisi recalled that the late Sushma Swaraj, former External Affairs Minister, had earlier responded positively to his representation and assured a separate PSK for the densely populated area.
With this launch, residents of South Hyderabad and Old City will now have easier access to passport services, cutting travel time and easing the burden on existing centers.
