Almora Magnesite Industry Gets Permission to Resume Operations

Almora, February 28: The magnesite industry in Almora has received permission from the High Court to resume operations for a period of four months, bringing relief to hundreds of families dependent on the unit for their livelihood.

The temporary approval is expected to directly and indirectly benefit around 500 families, covering nearly 2,000 individuals who were affected after the industry remained closed for an extended period.

Officials said the reopening follows the industry securing Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board (UKPCB). After reviewing the matter, the High Court granted conditional permission, taking into account the interests of workers and associated families.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the state government remains committed to maintaining a balance between industrial growth, environmental compliance and local employment generation. He noted that the government is working to promote development and create job opportunities while ensuring adherence to environmental norms.

The resumption is expected to provide temporary economic relief to workers who had been facing livelihood challenges during the closure period.
