Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Sunday strongly condemned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s remarks on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, alleging that the Congress government was misusing the exercise to target voters supporting the BJP.
Ramchander Rao was addressing a gathering in Hyderabad after welcoming youth leaders from OBC and Munnuru Kapu associations into the BJP. The leaders had earlier worked for the BRS in Secunderabad.
The BJP state president alleged that official machinery was being misused under the pretext of the SIR process to remove voters perceived to be favourable to the BJP. He expressed concern over what he described as the targeted deletion of lakhs of BJP supporters’ votes, particularly in the Secunderabad Parliamentary Constituency.
He also alleged that the government was attempting to remove the names of people who had migrated from neighbouring Telugu-speaking states, settled in Telangana and supported the BJP.
Ramchander Rao further alleged that family members of some BJP leaders were being harassed through notices issued on technical grounds.
Pointing out that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) working at the field level are state government employees, he urged them to discharge their constitutional responsibilities impartially and without coming under pressure from any political party.
Citing action taken in the past against officials allegedly involved in irregularities in Khammam district, he warned that the BJP would pursue legal action against officials found violating rules.
He said the party would also submit formal complaints to the Election Commission of India, along with evidence, if any irregularities were detected during the SIR process.
