A total of 759 children have gone missing in Assam since 2017

Guwahati : A total of 759 missing children cases have been registered in Assam since 2017. Out of these, a total of 666 children have been rescued and 93 are yet to be rescued. Action regarding the abduction of children is carried out according to specific laws.
Women and Child Development Minister Ajanta Neog gave this information on Tuesday when asked by MLA Digant Kalita about child trafficking cases in the Assam Legislative Assembly on the 8th day of the budget session on Tuesday.The Minister said that a case has been compulsorily registered against the people abducted in the rescue process, the investigation of the case is going on under the supervision of higher police officers.
Information about children is submitted on missing children portal and also disseminated through social media, newspapers.
The minister said that action has been taken officially under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 (ITPA) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 (POCSO) to prevent incidents of child trafficking.
Steps have been taken to set up Anti-Human Trafficking Units and Special Juvenile Police to prevent incidents of child trafficking in border districts as well as other districts.
