The Election Commission of India has scheduled a visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday to meet with political parties and gather their input on conducting Assembly polls in the Union Territory.
The chief electoral officer of J&K has issued letters to various political parties, inviting them to participate in the meeting with the EC. This visit is taking place just a few weeks before the Supreme Court’s deadline of September 30 for holding elections in J&K.
The EC, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, will be accompanied by two election commissioners, Gyanesh Kumar and S S Sandhu, during their three-day visit from August 8-10.
This meeting is crucial in order to ensure that all necessary preparations are in place for conducting smooth and fair elections in the UT.
