Sanju samson suffered a rib injury while trying to play a shot against Vipraj Nigam

In an action-packed match at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday during IPL 2025, Rajasthan Royals faced a Super Over loss against Delhi Capitals. Rajasthan’s captain, Sanju Samson, suffered a rib strain while executing a cut shot against leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam in the sixth over and had to retire hurt.

At the time of his injury, he had scored 31 runs off 19 balls and partnered with Yashasvi Jaiswal in a strong opening stand of 61 runs. Samson did not return for the rest of the match.

In the Super Over, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, and Yashasvi Jaiswal batted for Rajasthan but managed to score only 11 runs. Post-match, Samson provided an update on his injury, saying, “I feel fine for now… We’ll see how it feels tomorrow,” while noting Mitchell Starc’s exceptional bowling as pivotal to the game’s outcome. Rajasthan Royals, needing 31 runs in the last three overs with eight wickets in hand, lost momentum after Starc dismissed key batsman Nitish Rana (51) and executed clever yorkers in the final over.

Following this defeat, the Royals have fallen to eighth place in the standings, having won only two out of seven matches. Their upcoming fixtures include games against Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Gujarat Titans.
