Saudi Arabia: In the last ten days, Saudi Arabia is said to have executed 12 people for drug-related offences. According to one report, some of these were beheadings with a sword.
According to the Telegraph, up to 12 people were sentenced to death after being imprisoned on non-violent drug charges, including three Pakistanis, four Syrians, two Jordanians, and three Saudis.
In March of this year, Saudi Arabia executed 81 people convicted of a variety of crimes. The recent wave of executions comes nearly two years after Saudi Arabia pledged to reduce such punishments. It followed the murder of US journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey in 2018, allegedly by a Saudi death squad acting on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s orders.
