Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered another defeat in IPL 2025, losing by 5 wickets to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday. Captain MS Dhoni acknowledged that the team was 15-20 runs short, as CSK has now lost 7 out of 9 matches, placing them at the bottom of the points table.
Dhoni noted consistent wicket losses and believed that their score of 154 runs was inadequate, especially since the pitch slowed down later. He emphasized that improved running could have netted more runs. While Dhoni appreciated the bowlers, particularly the spinners, he identified a significant issue: the team’s struggle against spin during the middle overs, which hindered their scoring potential. 21-year-old Dewald Brevis made a mark in his debut, scoring 42 runs off 25 balls, prompting Dhoni to commend his performance.
After the match, Dhoni said, “I think we lost wickets consistently. The pitch was slightly better in the first innings, and 154 runs was not a justified score. The pitch did slow down a bit after the eighth or ninth over, but that wasn’t unusual. If we had been better with our running, we could have added a few more runs.”
This defeat marked the first time SRH overcame CSK at Chepauk, where CSK has lost four out of five home matches. Their next game is against Punjab Kings on April 30.
