Command of Cong comes in the hands of Mallikarjun Kharge

New Delhi : Newly elected Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took over the reins of the party on Wednesday. Former president Sonia Gandhi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, former president Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and many senior leaders were present at the swearing-in ceremony of Khadke at the Congress headquarters. The reins of Congress have gone into the hands of non-Gandhi family after 24 years.

In the swearing-in ceremony, election officer Madhusudan Mistry handed over the certificate of victory to Kharge on the stage. During this, Sonia Gandhi said that she is feeling relieved when Kharge takes over. He said that now Kharge will take over the responsibility of the post of president. He also congratulated Kharge.


It is noteworthy that before the swearing-in, Khadke reached Rajghat in the morning. He paid floral tributes at the Samadhi of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He then went to the tombs of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Rajiv Gandhi, Jagjivan Ram and Indira Gandhi to pay tribute to them. In the election for the post of President, Kharge had won by a huge margin defeating Shashi Tharoor.
