Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the groundwork for Arunachal Pradesh’s first greenfield airport, the ‘Donyi Polo Airport’ in Holangi, Itanagar few mins back today. The Airports Authority of India built the Donyi Polo airport at a cost of Rs 645 crore. At the event, he will also dedicate to the nation the 600 MW Kameng hydropower station in the West Kameng district.
The foundation stone for the Greenfield Airport at Hollongi was laid, and the retrofitted Tezu airport was inaugurated. According to an official statement, the terminal at Hollongi was built at a cost of approximately Rs 955 crore and covers an area of 4100 square meters. It has a maximum capacity of 200 passengers.
Arunachal Pradesh, the country’s easternmost state, has no airport. The nearest facility is at Lilabari airport in Assam’s North Lakhimpur district, which is 80 kilometres away. The state has a few advanced landing zones, including Pasighat and Tezu.

Except for Wednesday, flights will connect Hollongi, which is about 15 kilometres from Itanagar, with Mumbai and Kolkata. Sanjay Kumar, IndiGo’s chief strategy and revenue officer, recently stated that a weekly flight service connecting Hollongi and Kolkata on Wednesdays will begin on December 3.
AAI General Manager Dilip Kumar Sajnani said that, in addition to IndiGo, Akasha and Flybig airlines have expressed interest in starting flight services from Donyi Polo airport. Flybig and Indigo have contacted the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to express their desire to begin flight operations. He recently stated that the AAI is hopeful of bringing them on board to begin operations.
