New Faces, New Responsibilities: Election Commissioners To Take Charge Under PM Modi

Delhi: The Central government has appointed two new Election Commissioners, Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, who will officially take charge of their positions on Friday. This decision was made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led three-member committee, along with the leader of Opposition and a designated Union Cabinet minister. The appointment comes after the recent resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goel. The selection of Kumar and Sandhu for the important role was announced on Thursday evening through a notification by the government.

The inclusion of Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in the panel as the opposition member highlights the collaborative effort of both ruling and opposition parties in this decision. Along with the Prime Minister and the Congress leader, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also attended the meeting.

The newly appointed Election Commissioners are expected to bring in their expertise and knowledge to ensure free and fair elections in the country. Their appointment reflects the government’s commitment towards strengthening democratic processes and institutions in India.
