Tragedy at Temple: 7 Lives Lost and 9 Injured in Jehanabad Stampede

Jehanabad: Tragedy struck the state of Bihar as seven people lost their lives and nine were injured in a stampede at Baba Siddhnath Temple in Makhdumpur of Jehanabad district.

The incident took place on the fourth Monday of the holy Sawan month, when a huge rush of devotees had gathered at the temple.

Alankrita Pandey, the district magistrate, informed that the situation is now under control. The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

This incident comes just weeks after over 120 people died at a religious congregation in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras. It is reported that the organizers had secured permission for a gathering of 80,000, but the turnout was much more, resulting in the stampede. Baba Siddhnath Temple, also known as Shiva Temple, holds great historical significance and was built during the Gupta period.

The district is also home to the famous Barabar Caves, dating back to the 3rd Century A.D. and known for being the origin of the Ajivika sect.

The government of Bihar has expressed deep sorrow over this unfortunate incident and has promised to take necessary measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
