Delhi’s Political Showdown: Who Will Take the Capital’s Crown?

The stage is set for the Delhi Assembly elections, with 70 seats up for grabs in the national capital today, February 5.

The voting will begin at 7 am and continue until 6 pm, with the contest being a three-cornered race between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress. The high-stakes campaign ended on Monday, with all parties making a final push to sway voters through roadshows, public meetings, padayatras, and bike rallies. The AAP, led by current Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is seeking a hat-trick by retaining power for the third consecutive time.

On the other hand, the BJP, which has not been in power in Delhi for 27 years, hopes to ride on anti-incumbency and middle-class anger to claim victory. The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years, is also looking to make a comeback by reclaiming its lost control over the assembly.

As many as 1.5 million residents of Delhi will be eligible to vote at 13,766 polling stations in what is being seen as a closely fought election.

The AAP comfortably won the last two elections but has faced challenges in the past two years with several party leaders facing corruption allegations. Ultimately, it will be up to the voters to decide who will lead Delhi for the next term.
