Polling teams move out with EVMs in Assam as election preparations enter final stage

Guwahati: With Assam set to vote on April 9, election preparations have entered the final phase with polling personnel across several districts beginning their journey to designated polling stations along with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other election materials.

Officials said polling teams were dispatched from designated distribution centres and strong rooms under tight security arrangements to ensure timely arrival at polling locations, including remote and sensitive areas.

In Sivasagar district, EVMs were dispatched from the strong room located at Sivasagar Government Higher Secondary Multipurpose School. Presiding officers and polling staff collected machines, documents and polling kits before leaving for their assigned stations.

Election authorities said all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure smooth conduct of voting.

According to official figures, Sivasagar district has 5,70,562 registered voters. A total of 741 polling stations have been set up across the district. These include 150 polling stations to be managed entirely by women personnel and 10 model polling stations equipped with additional voter facilities.

Officials said special attention has been given to remote polling locations where teams were dispatched earlier to account for travel time and logistical challenges. In districts such as Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao and Dhemaji, polling teams assigned to remote booths had already begun their movement with election materials to ensure readiness before polling day.

Election officials said transportation plans included road movement as well as special arrangements where required for difficult terrain.

Security personnel are accompanying polling teams as per Election Commission guidelines to safeguard EVMs and ensure uninterrupted polling arrangements.

Final phase before polling

The dispatch of polling parties is considered one of the most important logistical stages before voting. Once teams reach their polling stations, they prepare the booths, verify materials and complete mandatory checks before the start of polling.

Authorities said training programmes for polling staff had already been completed and district administrations are monitoring the final arrangements.

Focus on smooth polling

Election officials said emphasis is being placed on ensuring that voters in both urban and remote areas are able to cast their votes without difficulty.

Facilities such as drinking water, shade and basic amenities are being arranged at polling stations as part of standard election preparedness.

With polling scheduled for April 9 across all 126 Assembly constituencies, authorities said coordination between civil administration, police and election officials has been strengthened to ensure peaceful voting.

The movement of polling teams marks the transition from campaign activity to the operational phase of the election process.
