NUJ(I) expresses its serious concern over Press Freedom in West Bengal

The rising incident in West Bengal on press freedom is is highly intolerable. A statement said,the editor of Anandabazar Patrika Anirban Chattopadhyay  , the largest-circulated Bangla newspaper, has resigned, after the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused  the newspaper that the state government in bad light and the editor was summoned by Kolkata Police for allegedly publishing fake news.

Ras Bihari President NUJ(I) said that these allegations being made about “pressure” from the Mamata Banerjee government and the threat to media freedom in West Bengal. Summoning are aimed at harassing and intimidating the journalists and thus are a clear violation of the press freedom. NUJ(I) urges the highest authorities in the administration to take a look into these issues, so that the journalists are provided a conducive atmosphere to work.

Prasanna Mohanty Secretary General Said that the State government has created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation for journalists in West Bengal and must be reviewed for freedom of expression to thrive.
