Country’s largest online dharna by Journalists on August 30

The National Union of Journalists(India )and the Delhi Journalists’ Association have been protesting today in Parliament over the killing of Journalists and fake cases against journalists in the country including Uttarakhand.
Many Media professtionals participated in the protest, which was led by Mr. Ras Bihari, President of the NUJ-(I), an affiliate of the International Federation of Journalists. Mr. Ras Bihari said letters submitted to the President demanded the implementation of the Journalist Protection Act. On August 30, there will be an online protest against registering fake cases against journalists.
Mr.Rakesh Tapliyal, President of the Delhi Journalists’ Association, said that the government was harassing journalists in Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat is trying to the suppressed voice of media.
Mr. Umesh Kumar, Senior journalist of the state and editor-in-chief of the private news channel, senior journalists, Mr.Rajesh Sharma, Mr.S P Semwal, and others were charged with sedition and branded as gangsters.
Mr.KP Malik, General Secretary of the Delhi Journalists’ Association, said three journalists, Shalabhamani Tiwari, Vikram Joshi, and Ratan Singh, who was shot dead by bullets in Uttar Pradesh, had sought protection from the police as they were likely to be killed. All three were killed due to poor law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.


Press Council members,Mr. Anand Rana, senior leaders of NUJ and DJA senior member Ms. Seema Kiran,Mr. Ashok Kinker,Mr. Naresh Gupta have participated in the protest. They have raised their voice against the increasing atrocities against Media persons and said that Journalists in India Unprotected and Exposed to Violence. Thus , there is a immediate need to enact a journalist protection law.
The memorandum submitted to the President said that the Trivendra Singh Rawat’s government of Uttarakhand, who sent journalists to jail slapping false cases is not be trusted anymore. T
Mr.Ras Bihari, President of NUJ(I) has been requested to get these cases investigated by the police of other state. All Unions and media companies are requested to participate in the largest online dharna in the country on August 30.
