Gujarat High Court Appointments 5 new judges

Ahmedabad : The Central Government has approved the appointment of 5 Judicial Officers as Additional Judges of the Gujarat High Court. Earlier on March 2, 2023, the appointment was made after the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium.

In a tweet, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “As per the extant provisions under the Constitution of India, the following judicial officers are appointed as Judges of the Gujarat High Court.”

The appointed judges include Susan Valentine Pinto, Hasmukhbhai Dalsukhbhai Suthar, Jitendra Champaklal Doshi, Mangesh Rameshchandra Mengde, Divyesh Kumar Amritlal Joshi. A resolution passed by the Supreme Court Collegium said that the Gujarat High Court Collegium, comprising the then Chief Justice and the two senior-most judges, had unanimously made the recommendation on September 26, 2022. The chief minister and governor of Gujarat also agreed with the recommendation, the resolution said.

As on March 1, 2023, the Gujarat High Court is functioning with 24 judges against the working strength of 52. Today 5 more judges were appointed, taking the total strength to 29. The posts of 23 judges are vacant in the Gujarat High Court.
