Demand for Guidelines for Girls’ School Safety

A Supreme Court case has raised a demand to implement guidelines made by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in 2019 regarding the safety of girls in schools.

Advocate HS Phoolka on behalf of NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan stated that only five states have implemented the guidelines, and incidents like sexual abuse of children have resurfaced in some states, including Maharashtra and Haryana. Phoolka called for the Supreme Court to hear the matter soon to give instructions to states where the guidelines have not been followed.

The court ordered a hearing on September 24. Bachpan Bachao Andolan filed a petition in 2019 demanding the implementation of the safety instructions.
