Brussels (Belgium) : The latest report by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has increased the concern of journalists around the world. According to this report by IFJ, 67 journalists and media persons have been killed so far this year across the globe. Last year this number was 47.

According to this report, the Ukraine-Russia war, chaos in Haiti and increasing violence by criminal groups in Mexico claimed the lives of many journalists in 2022. There has been a sharp increase in the number of journalists becoming victims of terrorist violence.

The Federation has said in the report that media persons are being put in jails to put pressure on them. The maximum incidents of atrocities on journalists have been seen in China including Hong Kong, Myanmar and Turkey. Last year’s report put 365 journalists behind bars.

The journalists’ organization said more media workers covering the war in Ukraine have been killed this year than in any other country. Most of the Ukrainian journalists have died. These include American documentary filmmaker Brent Renaud.

IFJ and other media rights groups have called on the governments of various countries to take more concrete action to protect journalists and free journalism.
