Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a USD 200 million defence credit line for Angola during talks with President Joao Manuel Goncalves Laurenco. This development follows a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, reiterating India’s dedication to tackling terrorism and its supporters.
PM Modi emphasized the importance of Laurenco’s visit in enhancing bilateral relations and bolstering the India-Africa partnership, especially in digital public infrastructure. The discussions also included defence platform repairs and supplies. India aims to collaborate with Angola in various sectors such as digital infrastructure, space technology, healthcare, diamond processing, fertilizers, and critical minerals.
PM Modi noted the significance of their relationship with the African Union, asserting that both nations represent “partners in progress” and “pillars of the Global South.” Laurenco’s four-day visit to Delhi is a crucial step in strengthening these ties.
Key outcomes include several MoUs on Ayurveda, agriculture, and cultural cooperation, alongside Angola joining the International Solar Alliance as its 123rd member.
