Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah announced a significant reduction in districts affected by Left-Wing Extremism (LWE), decreasing the number of most affected districts from 12 to 6, as part of efforts to create a Naxal-free Bharat. In a post on X, he emphasized the Modi government’s commitment to building a “Sashakt, Surakshit, and Samriddh Bharat” through decisive measures against Naxalism, aiming to eradicate it completely by March 31, 2026.
Overall, there were 38 districts impacted by Naxalism, with the number of “Districts of Concern” reducing from 9 to 6. The clearly identified most affected districts now include 4 from Chhattisgarh (Bijapur, Kanker, Narayanpur, and Sukma), 1 from Jharkhand (West Singhbhum), and 1 from Maharashtra (Gadchiroli). Additionally, “Other LWE-affected Districts” also decreased from 17 to 6, including areas from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Telangana.
To support these districts, the Government of India provides financial assistance of ₹30 crore for the most affected and ₹10 crore for those of concern through the Special Central Assistance (SCA) scheme. The advancement in combating LWE is attributed to the establishment of new security camps, improving infrastructure like roads and basic services, and implementing welfare schemes for local communities.
