Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party MP, Raghav Chadha, has called for a reduction in the minimum age for contesting elections from 25 years to 21 years. Chadha emphasized India’s youth, with 65% of the population under 35 and 50% under 25 years. He cited the fact that only 12% of the members of the 17th Lok Sabha were under 40 years old when the first Lok Sabha was elected after independence.
Chadha urged the Indian government to aspire to be a young country with young politicians and suggested that the minimum age for contesting elections should be reduced from 25 years to 21 years. He also emphasized that parents should not encourage their children to become doctors or engineers, but rather encourage them to enter politics.
Chadha believes that a 21-year age for contesting elections would help build a young country with young politicians.
