Russia to deliver India its third S-400 missile defence system

New Delhi: Despite the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, Russia is ready to deliver the third batch of S-400 missile defence systems. In November, components for the S-400 will begin to arrive from Russia. Russia has so far provided India with two S-400 squadrons.

After the conflict with Ukraine began in February, Russia supplied India with a second squadron. The S-400, Russia’s first missile defence system, was deployed in the Punjab sector in December. The entire world is concerned about Russia’s missile defence system joining India’s defence fleet.

Given the Indian Air Force’s limited capabilities, getting the Russian Missile Defense System S-400 to India on a consistent basis is critical.

Given the Indian Air Force’s low number of fighter squadrons (31 instead of the approved 42), getting the Russian Missile Defense System S-400 to India on a consistent basis is critical. Given the constant threat from the China-Pakistan border, India was in desperate need of Russia’s S-400 air defence system.

The first missile defence system delivered by Russia in December was installed in the Punjab sector. This air defence system can deal with threats from both Pakistan and China from here. The second S-400 consignment, received in April, has since been deployed east along the Chicken Neck Corridor, which connects India’s northeastern states to the rest of the country.

In 2018, India agreed to buy five S-400 squadrons from Russia for Rs 35,000 crore. By October 2023, India will have received five regiments (flights) of the S-400 Triumph missile. The entire world is concerned about Russia’s missile defence system joining India’s defence fleet. Each flight contains eight launchers, each with two missiles. It is one of the most advanced air defence missile systems, with a range of 400 kilometres. Can bring down enemy fighter jets, UAVs, and incoming missiles from up to a mile away. This surface-to-air missile system will strengthen India’s military capabilities.
