Tamil Nadu Under Investigation: NIA Raids Former PFI Members for Unlawful Activity

Chennai:  The National Investigation Agency (NIA) was carrying out multiple raids in different parts of Tamil Nadu, including Myladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Coimbatore, and Madurai, on Thursday.

These raids were being conducted on the premises of former members of the outlawed Popular Front of India (PFI), which was banned in 2022. Sources reveal that the NIA was trying to gather evidence to determine if any unlawful activities were being carried out by the PFI.

These raids also included the residences of individuals associated with the PFI, such as lawyer Raj Muhammad and autorickshaw driver Nawasudin. In Trichy, the NIA was conducting searches at two locations – the residence of Amir Basha near the airport and Sidhiq, an associate of SDPI, the political arm of the banned PFI.

This operation was also aimed at gathering information about the brutal murder of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Ramalingam in 2019 by PFI cadres for opposing forced conversions. The NIA had previously charged 18 PFI members for this heinous crime.

These raids by the NIA are crucial in uncovering any further illegal activities by the banned PFI and bringing justice for their victims.
