Stormy Debates and Fiery Budget: Monsoon Session of Parliament Begins

Delhi:  The Monsoon Session of Parliament, set to begin on Monday, will see Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman present the Union Budget on Tuesday. This session, which will have 19 sittings until August 12, is expected to see the united opposition challenge the NDA government on various issues such as the NEET paper leak case and railway safety.

Along with the budget presentation, the government plans to introduce six bills, including one to replace the 90-year-old Aircraft Act and seek approval for the budget of Jammu and Kashmir, currently under central rule. On Monday, Sitharaman will also present the Economic Survey in Parliament. Sources reveal that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has called for a meeting with political parties’ floor leaders to discuss the issues they want to address during the session.

The BJD, led by former Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik, has already declared its stance as a strong opposition and plans on raising state-related issues in Parliament. As the Monsoon Session begins, all eyes are on the government and opposition as they gear up for a crucial session in the midst of a pandemic and economic crisis.
