‘Amazed by India’s heritage’, says Vance in Jaipur

US Vice President JD Vance, along with his family, commenced a four-day visit to India, starting with a trip to the iconic Amer Fort in Jaipur. Arriving in an open jeep, they enjoyed the picturesque views of Maawatha Sarovar and Kesar Ki Khyari garden. The family received a magnificent traditional welcome at Jaleb Chowk, where they were greeted by two elaborately decorated elephants, Pushpa and Chanda, with Pushpa offering blessings while Chanda presented them with a floral garland. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, and other officials welcomed the Vance family, who were entertained by Rajasthani folk artists during the visit.

Following the tour of Amer Fort, the family visited Panna Meena Kund and the Unique Museum, wrapping up their sightseeing. The visit was marked by strict security measures, including the closure of major roads and the deployment of approximately 2,500 police personnel, along with American security teams. Later that afternoon, Vance planned to enjoy Rajasthani cuisine at Rambagh Palace and address the American Business Summit at the Rajasthan International Center. Vance, who arrived in Jaipur on Monday night with his wife Usha and their three children, is also believed to be attending a family wedding in the “Pink City.” Usha Vance’s parents are Telugu-speaking educators from Andhra Pradesh.

On Monday evening, Vice President Vance met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. Both leaders noted significant progress on a trade agreement between India and the US, with India aiming to navigate US tariffs while fostering a strong rapport with the Trump administration. The PM’s office highlighted discussions around mutual cooperation in energy, defense, and advanced technology, emphasizing that dialogue and peaceful negotiations are essential in resolving conflicts.

The Trump administration has confirmed an ongoing plan for trade discussions, with Vance’s office stating the talks are focused on establishing a modern trade agreement that promotes job growth and enhances the quality of life in both nations. Speaking on US-India relations, Vance remarked that creating a better society for future generations is a profound responsibility. He expressed a desire for collaboration that emphasizes innovation and partnership rather than a one-sided relationship, noting previous attitudes towards India as purely a labor source. Vance commended Prime Minister Modi, stating, “Our kids just like him,” which reflects a promising foundation for the future of US-India relations.

US Vice President JD Vance emphasized the importance of personal warmth while strengthening diplomatic relations between the US and India. In his address, he showcased his optimism for enhancing cooperation between the two nations, focusing on three pivotal areas: defence collaboration, infrastructure development, and joint innovation in advanced technologies, which he deemed essential for the future of both countries.

Vance underscored the significant military partnership between the US and India, noting that the US conducts more military exercises with India than with any other country globally. This reflects not only the strategic ties but also the trust and mutual respect that characterize their relationship.

In a notable gesture, Vance mentioned the offer of fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets to India, emphasizing the commitment to bolster India’s defense capabilities. He expressed his admiration for Indian culture, recounting his experience at Prime Minister Modi’s residence, where he found the food delightful. His son Ewan even suggested that they might consider living in India due to the fondness the family feels for the country. Vance humorously noted that his children have developed friendships with both Modi and former President Trump, highlighting the personal connections that can develop beyond politics.

In the latter part of his visit, Vance was set to travel to Agra on Wednesday morning, with plans to return to Jaipur in the afternoon along with his family. He also included a visit to the City Palace in his itinerary, further signifying his interest in experiencing the rich culture and history of India.

Overall, Vice President Vance’s statements reflect an optimistic view towards the future of US-India relations, characterized by collaboration and mutual understanding, blending personal experiences with diplomatic objectives. His remarks and planned activities underscore a commitment to fostering a deeper bond between the two countries, rooted in shared values and aspirations.
