BSF Soldier injured in IED blast at India-Pak border in Gurdaspur

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was critically injured in an IED blast near Dorangla village, close to the India-Pakistan border in Punjab. This incident marks the first recorded use of explosive devices in the region.

The IEDs detonated while the BSF was conducting a patrol aimed at securing the area before the installation of the border fence, leading to considerable damage to the jawan’s feet, including the loss of a toe. In response, the BSF has issued alerts along the 553 km border in Punjab and halted farming activities in the vicinity.

A formal complaint will also be filed with the Pakistan Rangers post-investigation. Security has intensified as the BSF assesses this alarming new threat. Despite the challenges, troops successfully secured an area in Gurdaspur, averting a potential disaster for both military personnel and local farmers; the remaining IEDs were defused after daylight. This unprecedented incident is noteworthy, as the Gurdaspur region has previously experienced drone activities for drug smuggling, but never IED attacks.

The BSF plans to revise its patrol strategies and highlight the courage of its personnel in thwarting severe incidents while ensuring civilian safety, recognizing the IEDs as a significant threat to both troops and civilians.
