Delhi airport resumes normal operations with heightened security amid tensions

Delhi: Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport resumed normal operations early Saturday, issuing a travel advisory for passengers amid heightened security due to increased tensions with Pakistan. The Delhi airport announced that while operations were normal, flight schedules might be affected by changing airspace conditions and enhanced security measures mandated by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.

Passengers are advised to stay updated with airline announcements, adhere to baggage regulations, and arrive early to potentially accommodate longer security processing times. They are urged to cooperate with airline and security staff and check flight statuses via official channels.

Furthermore, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has released notices indicating a temporary closure of 32 airports in Northern and Western India for civil flight operations from May 9 to May 14, 2025, due to operational reasons. This includes airports like Amritsar, Jodhpur, and Jammu, among others. Concurrently, drones, suspected of being armed, have been sighted across 26 locations along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC), posing threats to civilian and military targets. These locations include Baramulla, Jammu, and Bhuj, raising concerns about security amid the ongoing tensions.
