Sanjeev Mukhiya, the suspected mastermind of the NEET paper leak, was arrested by the Bihar Special Task Force and the Economic Offenses Unit in Patna. Authorities had issued a three lakh rupee reward for his capture due to his evasion.
EOU’s ADG, Nayyar Hasnain Khan, identified Mukhiya as the main suspect, alleging he collected 40 lakh rupees from students for the leaked question papers. He has a criminal history, including a 2016 paper leak case and a jail term for the BPSC teacher recruitment scam.
EOU Additional Director General (ADG) Nayyar Hasnain Khan said, “In the course of intelligence gathering by the Economic Offences Unit’s SOG (Special Operations Group), it was learnt that Sanjeev Mukhiya, a criminal with a reward of ₹3 lakh declared by the Bihar government, who is the mastermind of various exam paper leak cases and is wanted in many cases, was staying in an apartment in Danapur, Patna.”
After verifying the information, the team informed Mr. Khan, who requested the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patna, to instruct the Danapur Police Station In-charge for assistance. Subsequently, the EOU’s Special Operation Team conducted a raid in Danapur on April 24-25, collaborating with local police to arrest the absconding accused, Sanjeev Mukhiya alias Sanjeev Kumar.
Mukhiya’s son, Dr. Shiv Kumar, is also in custody
