PM Modi and Bangladesh’s Yunus dine together at BIMSTEC amid tensions

On Thursday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a dinner in Bangkok hosted by Thailand’s PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra for BIMSTEC leaders, joining Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and Nepal PM K P Sharma Oli.

Despite recent tensions between India and Bangladesh over issues like violence against Hindu minorities and asylum for Sheikh Hasina, Bangladeshi officials expressed a desire for a bilateral meeting, which was not on Modi’s agenda.

  • They await a response from India, with potential for a Friday meeting to ease tensions.
